When I interviewed a teacher at the school I was not surprised to see that most of her replies where stating that the 21 century human is too involved with himself or a computer to really see life all around. She said that if she could change something, it would be to go back maybe 10 years and to relive to time where everything didn't revolve around electronics. The same was said by a student from school. She agreed that the world is becoming too focused on the individual, and not the group. However, when I asked about what kind of art they believed described our time, their answers varied. The teacher said that something emotional and futuristic would fit but the student said that our time is very focused on the past and so something classical would be a better decision. After those replies I thought that asking my mom would be a good idea.... I was wrong. She had a hard time understanding what it meant to describe a 21 century human. When she was finally able to wrap her mind around it she came to the conclusion that a person is described by the community they are in. She said that a person of our time is someone that help to create a better place for the future because she knows that out school achieves great things when it comes to helping the less fortunate.
After the interview I think that the art piece should be something that connects to the modern aspect of the world but also find a way to incorporate a classical view. But in the process of looking good, it should also have some advantage, maybe even offer help to the community. Pulling all these ideas together creates a great mess of things but with more time I think that I will be able the narrow down the ideas and create a master piece.
Some of the interviews were different than I had anticipated. When I interviewed a freshman in my peer group, Gabby, she was really into the world and what is going on with the people in it. She thought that one of the main problems in the world today is peace, which is not exactly what I was expecting to hear from a freshman. When I asked her what people of the 21st century focus most of their time, she said technology and that it was a bad thing because we tend to forget about other things such as peace. When I interviewed my dad, he agreed that the main focus is on technology, but he did not see it as a negative aspect of our generation. He thinks all the technology is giving us more opportunity to improve the issues we have today. I also interviewed Mr. Carabez to get a somewhat older perspective. When asked what words come to mind when thinking about the 21st century, his answers were, computer, cell phones, cars, and "other unnecessary gadgets". All of this answers had to do with technology and new inventions.
ReplyDeleteAfter these interviews, it was somewhat obvious that the 21st century revolved around technology and innovations. An art piece to represent the 21st century will no doubt have to include a major part that symbolizes are focus and need for technology. This can be either a good or bad representation of how it is a part of our century, but none the less, it is a needed aspect in a piece of art to show our world today. There are many other parts of our century that should also be included because our society does not ONLY focus on technology, and these parts are just as much a part of the 21st century as technology is.
